In regards to this article that Carly sent me this morning, and upon her request to hear my thoughts…

The fact that this is even a topic of conversation makes me think of this lovely passage from Mindy Kaling’s book, in which she answers the question: Why didn’t you talk about whether women are funny or not?

“I just felt that by commenting on that in any real way, it would be tacit approval of it as a legitimate debate, which it isn’t. It would be the same as addressing the issue of “Should dogs and cats be able to care for our children? They’re in the house anyway.” I try not to make it a habit to seriously discuss nonsensical hot-button issues.”

To me, this article is a nonsensical hot-button issue, in which the writer implies her opinion of success.

Maybe success IS working in finance or politics or private equity, making seven figures and never having to clean spit up out of your hair (or at least, having your spouse do it 50% of the time). Or maybe sucess is not having debt, not having a cheating spouse because you’re never home, or raising children who aren’t serial killers, sociopaths or reality TV stars.

It’s not an issue until we make it one, is it?

Or really, Carly said it best with this:

“Lady, chill out. You’re writing lifestyle pieces for the NYTimes European edition. Your life is not that difficult.”

Ok, I’ll STFU now, happy Friday kids.
